# Subscriber Lists

> Segment your audience so the right people get the right updates.

Lists let you split your subscribers into groups and notify only the relevant ones when publishing a release.

## Create a list

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Subscriber Lists">
    Go to **Settings → Workspace → Subscriber Lists**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a list">
    Click **Create list** and name it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the default (optional)">
    Under **Settings → Page → Subscribers**, choose the **Default subscriber list** that public sign-ups are added to.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Useful segmentations

* **By product** mirrors your [projects](/guides/projects), so API customers don't get mobile app updates.
* **By audience** splits customers from your internal team and partners.
* **By depth** sends major launches to everyone and everything else to a smaller "all updates" list.

## Sending to specific lists

In the [publish dialog](/guides/releases/publishing), enable the email notification and select which lists to notify. Leaving a list out means those subscribers see the release on your page and feeds, but don't get an email.

<Tip>
  Two lists solve most segmentation problems. Start there and split further only when you find yourself deciding not to send an email because it would annoy part of the audience.
